Problem 3: Essential Amino Acids
Does the ingestion of a meal deficient in lysine followed one
hour later by a supplement of lysine satisfy our requirement
for essential amino acids in our diet?

| | Yes, once the essential amino acid is present then we
can synthesize the necessary proteins. The other amino
acids are simply stored until the complete complement of
all the necessary amino acids is present. |
| | No, in contrast to lipids and carbohydrates we can't
store the nitrogen component of amino acids. If amino
acids cannot be used immediately, then the carbon chain
will be degraded and the nitrogen eliminated as urea |
