Problem 13: Isotopes

Two isotopes of an element have the same number of protons and electrons, but differ in the number of neutrons. The chemical properties of two isotopes are nearly identical. This observation is consistant with the concept:

A. Neutrons play no essential role in the nucleus
Incorrect.
Neutrons contribute to the molecular weight of the element, determining the isotope.
