The Biology Project Web Lecture Series
Course Materials on the WWW: Examples from UA Webspace
Secrets of successful course web sites
- Don't forget the human component.
Design the web site so that instructors and students can use it to learn
more about each other. Build in instructor-student and student-student interactions. Create/use web assignments that encourage cooperative learning.
- Take advantage of the medium.
Use color, interactivity, feedback, animations (not gratuitous, but
content-providing), and external web resources.
- Give students a reason to come to the site frequently.
Update the site often, provide valuable information at the site (stuff
that students will be graded on), and integrate the web into the class.
- Follow the basic principles of good web design.
