Easter Island (Spanish: Isla de Pascua) is a Chilean dependency located in the Pacific Ocean, about 3,700 km (2,300 miles) west of Chile. Famous for its giant stone statues, the triangle-shaped island has an area of 117 sq km (45 sq mi). Its Dutch discovers called it Paaseiland (Easter Island) to commemorate the day it was sighted. its Polynesian name is Rapa Nui.
