This high oil magnification view of a Wright's stained peripheral
blood [smear] shows the findings of hypochromic macrocytes, target cells,
thrombocytosis, a nucleated red blood cell, and a Howell-Jolly body.
The diagnosis is homozygous beta thalassemia.
