Iron deficiency after transfusion

Description
This high dry magnification photomicrograph is of the
peripheral blood in a patient with iron deficiency anemia
who as been transfused. A double population of red cells is seen.
One population is intensely hypochromic and probably microcytic,
although there is no lymphocyte for comparison purposes. A
population of normochromic normocytic red blood
cells is seen, which represent the transfused erythrocytes. Some of
those transfused cells are also spherocytic.
