Note on File Formats GIF and JPEG are not working file formats--they are final file formats. For modifying an image, always go back to its original, or the version *just before* you reduced bit depth for a GIF or saved in JPEG format.

Images on the web should have the

• smallest acceptable physical dimensions
• fewest acceptable number of colors (GIF) or lowest acceptable quality compression (JPG)
• smallest acceptable number of frames (animations)

  The tradeoff is between FILE SIZE and IMAGE QUALITY.
