NEXTSTEP Version of FlyLab

Virtual FlyLab is based on a genetics program called FlyLab, developed at Cal State LA as part of the Electronic Desktop Project. FlyLab has additional features not available on the WWW version. With FlyLab you can

  • Drag-and-drop any two flies into a "Mating Window"
  • Mate flies from different crosses
  • Obtain an automatically written editable record of "Lab Notes"
  • Save "Lab Notes" as an RTF file for importing into a word processor
  • Hold flies as "Fly Stocks" for re-use during your FlyLab session
  • Examine flies at 2x-5x by dragging an onscreen "magnifying glass"
  • Obtain extensive context-sensitive help
FlyLab is available for any computer running the NEXTSTEP (or OPENSTEP for mach) operating systems. Windows and Macintosh versions are not available, so please don't ask. For more details, check out the FlyLab information page which is part of the EDP's NEXTSTEP Courseware Catalog.
